World Snooker Coaching
Since qualifying as a World Snooker Coach it has been a privilege to be a part of World Snooker’s coaching ’family’. Headed up by Chris Lovell, Andrew Highfield, and Lisa Bray, the team have been brilliantly supportive to us all.
We meet twice a year at seminars during the World and UK Championships, during which we have had talks from a number of high profile speakers both within snooker and other sports. Those who have taken the time to join us have included Dr Steve Peters, Chris Henry, Jessica Ennis’ coach Toni Minichiello, and players such as Steve Davis, Shaun Murphy, Ken Doherty, Mark King and Dennis Taylor.
Coaches from the group also run the Cue Zone at most major televised tournaments. Using both full and half-sized tables located in public areas, we try and attract members of the public to try their hand at snooker. Many people are amazed at how big a snooker table is!
Within the umbrella of World Snooker, all participants are recognised, including Disabled Billiards and Snooker, Women’s Snooker and Seniors. Each of these groups are supported, with more tournaments and open events aimed at increasing participation. Coaches are in attendance at such events and they are always very enjoyable.
All coaches are DBS checked and trained in all aspects of safeguarding, diversity and mental health.
